Cub Scouts
Lucas joined Cub Scouts and was very excited to earn his first merit badge. Another one of the activities was to see the Harlem Globe Trotters! Hailey got to tag along and Tom and the kids even got to meet and greet with some of the players. FUN!

Winter Break
Due to August's hurricane, East Lyme Public Schools cut 3 days of the regularly scheduled winter vacation. We were still happy to get together with the Lloyd cousins from Boston.
Mardi Gras
In Tom's glory days, he lived it up in New Orleans. One of his fondest memories was celebrating Mardi Gras. KING CAKES are a tradition- a plastic baby Jesus is baked inside the pastry. The fun is in getting the piece with baby Jesus. Sometimes people contribute to a pot of money- a certain price per slice and the winner gets to buy next year's cake. LUCAS will be fitting the bill for 2013's king cake! We thought the kids would enjoy the anticipation...and we were surprised to discover a local bakery that actually made the cakes.

October Road Trip
NYC is not a far drive from southeastern Connecticut. We loaded the DVD player for the kids and headed to Staten Island to stay a a cheap Navy lodge for an overnight. The weather was sunny and warm and we beheld the Statue of Liberty from the ferry as we crossed to the city. We enjoyed the buzz and chaos of Times Square and the view from atop Rockefeller Tower. The Peanut Butter & Co. has a menu with peanut butter in every selection. YUM!
